Merle stared at the boxes being hauled into the moving van. She knew that it would just break Brendan’s heart if she told him before. “Peanut? What in the world are you doing here?” Peanut’s eyes welled up with tears.
“Don’t leave Asterly! Why are you leaving? I thought you were happy here!” Merle shuffled her shoes.
“Peanut, I really was happy here! I finally met a guy who liked me for me! But… Brendan is going to be a father. I’m having a baby. But I can’t stay here. So, I’m moving. I’m going to move somewhere to raise my child in peace. Somewhere where he can’t possibly find me. I’m going to leave a letter in his mailbox before I leave, telling him I left. G-goodbye P-Peanut. I-I’ll miss you s-s-soo much!” The pink squirrel was crying, holding Merle in a hug.
“I-I don’t want to let go! M-maybe we’ll meet again? W-write me!” Merle nodded.
“Well, are ye coming or not? Me gots a life too!” Kapp’n screamed from his black cab.
“C-coming! I’ll write every day!” Merle ran to the cab, wiping tears from her blue eyes as they streamed down her face.
